Can you have Gastric Bypass Surgery if you have Hepatitis C?

My mother has Hepatitis C, she has already finished treatment for the Hepatitis and recently everything has been fine. On her last tests nothing even showed up. A few days ago she found out she was a candidate for Gastric Bypass surgery. While she is not heavily overweight, she does meet the guidelines and would like to have it done. Her heart doctor told her she needed to find out if her having Hepatitis C would interfere with that or cause them to not allow her to receive the surgery before he filled out all the paper work. So I’m trying to find out for her. Thanks!

if your mother just recently finished antiviral chemotherapy, she should wait at least 6 months to a year to fully recover. antiviral chemotherapy can affect blood clotting factors which can leave a person to bleed more easily (hcv can cause this too).
she should wait until she’s had a sustained viral response and that will not be conclusive until she is post a year.
