Could someone die from Gastric Bypass surgery?

gastric bypass
Jhonathon D asked:

Let’s say they had a hysterectomy, survived colon cancer, and has a wire mesh surrounding their stomach because it’s broken and they weigh only 250 pounds, but most of that weight is centered around the belly area. Why would a doctor tell them they need Gastric Bypass, and do you think that’s safe?
