What is the recommended protein requirement. I had gastric bypass 6 months ago and want to ensure I am getting enough protein.

I don’t know the answer but do watch how much sugar you eat. My grandmother had it (she is very young for a grandmother) and she tried to drink some orange juice and it had to much sugar and she got violently ill.

The FDA recommends 54 grams of protein per day. I disagree. Try to eat at least 1/2 gram per pound of body weight, all the way up to 1 gram per pound of body weight if you desire. If sugar is a problem, consider eating more meat as it contains plenty of protein and delicious healthy fats. Some protein rich foods include meat, cheese, eggs, nuts, seeds, and some other dairy products. Best of luck

Why would you ask that here? That is a question to ask your Dr.

The normal % of protein is about 25-40 percent of your daily calorie consumption, depending on lifestyle and personal fitness goals. In your case, you should have a nutritionist assigned by your bariatric surgeon who has given you this information. If in fact they haven’t, call them and ask for it.

Since this could be a life threatening situation, you need to consult your Doctor on this issue and not rely upon the ramblings of people who have little or no knowledge on this subject.

My surgeon told me to eat at least 70 grams of protien per day and that’s what I eat everyday.
