my friend had a gastric bypass on the 13th of march and it is her 21st birthday on the 29th. its not like she wants 2 go out and get drunk every week, but she will be getting drunk on her birthday. is it safe 4 her 2 get drunk (spirits) just that once? i mean could it ruin the gastric bypass or seriously damage her or will she be fine? thanks, Jen.

If you are unsure, I would recommend her to talk to her doctor about it. Better be safe than sorry.

I think it would kind of ruin the bypass but like the last person said i would consult my doctor just to make sure.

IT IS NOT SAFE AT ALL! Could cause severe alcohol poisioning. My mom just had lapband which is 100 times easier then gastric and she was told never to drink.

She needs to ask her doctor. When you have gastric bypass the alcohol does not take long to make her drunk. Just a couple of ozs will do it. It metabolizes different.

I don’t think it will ruin the gastric bypass, but is a very bad idea. After a gastric bypass alcohol takes affect for faster. So even one drink could make her drunk. At 2 1/2 weeks her stomach will not be healed so it could give problems there, and I have heard that excess alcohol after a gastric bypass can damage the stomach. She will still not even be able to eat much. A better idea for her birthday would be a great treat of another type. Perhaps a pampering day with a massage and facial?
